Bits and bytes-sized thoughts

I am no tech expert and always have been a late adopter of technology. Heck, my wife had an easier time setting up the wireless at our place than I did. But, I always have two-cents for everyone so here's my bits and bytes-sized thoughts.

Are you a Net-addict?

Do you know how addicted you are to your personal technology? Do you really? So here's a simple test. Not 25 things to share, no 25 people to tag. Three simple questions, there's no right or wrong.

1. Do you let your friend, partner or spouse borrow your mobile phone if theirs is spoilt/lost?

2. Do you let your friend, partner or spouse use your notebook if theirs is down?

3. Do you let your friend, partner or spouse use your email or other online accounts if they don't have access to theirs?

I can imagine what the responses are. If you say yes to some of the questions, think of how many reasons why you would say no vs yes. Then answer the question again.
We're pretty reliant on our PC and Internet today and it has become "our Internet." If your PC breaks down today and it can't be repaired. Would you not buy a PC because of the current economic environment? You might not buy the most expensive PC, but I think many of us would still buy a replacement.

How long can you "live" without being connected to your virtual world?

Think about it, some of us actually spend more time with our PC than our loved ones. Even when we are with our loved ones, we might still be on our PC! Mobile phones are another example of consumer technology that's so much a part of our lives today. I think many of us can't imagine not having one! Phone cards? What are they? When you pick up a phone to dial, do you dial a number or a person? My point exactly.

Look at personal computing today. My hands itch if I don't constantly log in to Facebook to see if anyone has posted on my wall. Okay, it happens, but not every two minutes. Our virtual lives are as important, if not more important, than our physical ones.

The friendly lady in my mailroom just commented that she's never been so connected to the Internet ever since she joined Intel! In the past she didn't log in over the weekends and now, she can't help herself! Maybe WiFi is infectious :)

The point? Connecting to our virtual lives is so easy and such a part of our daily routine. Good thing PCs and other mobile computing devices are at price points that are affordable and accessible.

So how addicted, or net(dicted) are you?
