Internet maverick proposes a DIY GSM base station!

Dr Onno Purbo, Indonesia's most prominent information technology advocate, just proposed another "crazy" idea: Do-it-yourself GSM base station! According to him, we could create our own GSM base station and provide free telephone calls for the people. "All we need is an open source technology and VoIP network," he said.

Nokia E75 hits Indonesian stores

Following its official announcement last month, the Nokia E75 is finally landing in Indonesian market. Nokia Indonesia launched the phone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard at Hotel Mulia Jakarta, inviting Indonesian the Communicator community, distributors and operators.

Indonesia's second biggest cellular operator, Indosat, launched RIM's first touchscreen device, BlackBerry Storm, recently. Starting next month, Indosat will deliver 5,000 unit of Storm to its customers.

Telkomsel to launch iPhone 3G officially on March 20

Telkomsel has announced that the long-awaited iPhone 3G will go on sale at 8pm, March 20, at Pacific Place, Sudirman Street, South Jakarta. Starting Monday (March 23), Apple's device will also be available from official distributors across the wider Jakarta area, while the country's biggest operator will roll out sales nationwide from Saturday March 28.

Indonesia goes mobile broadband

Indonesian Internet users have choices in accessing Net services now. They can choose both PC-based dial-up and broadband access that are offered by Internet service providers, or if they prefer mobile and broadband access, there are many GPRS and 3G/W-CDMA services offered by the country's GSM operators such asTelkomsel, Indosat and Excelcom.
