Indonesia's female violinist goes blogging

Posted by budip
Maylaffayza is one of the few Indonesian celebrities who maximises the use of technology, particularly in blogging, social networking and multimedia sharing. She uses her blog site (maylaffayza.multiply.com) and Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/maylaffayza) as her expression as well as marketing tools.

In the Indonesian music industry, Maylaffayza stands out for being the only solo pop-classic crossover female violinist.

And I really love to hear this good news: She was featured in a full-page spread in The Star, Malaysia's largest daily, on Sunday. She, as usual, always mentions that her activity in blogging is very important in her life:

Indonesia's island names are sold out?

Posted by budip
It's quite interesting to discover that some Indonesian island names are picked up as favorite technology-related brands.

After Java--where Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, is located--was picked-up as the Sun's platform technology. I was just surprised to find that Sumatra, another big island in the country, was also used as a technology-related product: Sumatra PDF. Read more »

Indonesia's telecoms war hots up

Posted by budip

At launch, HCPT’s network covered most of the Java Island and the company intends to expand its coverage to Sumatra within 2007 and commence service in Kalimantan and Sulawesi by the end of 2008.

Indonesian engineer combatting bird flu by CDMA

Posted by budip
It's good news. Instead of negotiating a contract to sell the Avian flu virus samples to an American vaccine company, an Indonesian engineer has created a new technology to combat against bird flu and has been awarded an international grant from Qualcomm, a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies.

The statistics indicate that bird flu has infected 81 people in Indonesia, killing 63, since the first human case was identified here in July 2005. Globally, there have been 165 fatalities from 271 human infections.

Bandung Institute of Technology's PhD student Ria L. Moedomo has successfully created an application which provides a system to assist in processing and analyzing poultry sales and the distribution process to track and combat against Avian Influenza.

Me, myself and blogging

Posted by budip
Please allow me to talk about myself on this occasion. I already decided to quit from my existing job as a journalist with Tempo, Indonesia's most respected general affairs magazine, and turn independent writer and full-time blogger.

Beyond my expectations, news of my departure hit the country's blogosphere and got a lot of positive responses from other bloggers, with some even naming me "Indonesia's first full-time blogger".

Many of them asked me why I decided to be a full-time blogger. My colleague, a Jakarta-based Malaysian blogger, Unspun, invited me to write a guest posting on my "controversial decision".
