HTC Magic: Google's bid in Indonesian cellular market

Posted by budip
HTC Magic, the smartphone with Google's Android operating system, was recently launched by Telkomsel and HTC in Indonesia. Telkomsel is the country's biggest operator which also offers the iPhone 3G and BlackBerry in Indonesia.

The operator offers the HTC Magic with its prepaid wireless service Simpati for around Rp6,500,000 (US$625). The standard retail package of the first Android phone comes with  free 300MB of data services each month for six months and a 2GB microSD memory card.

HTC Magic offers 3G capabilities, a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The Magic is also enhanced with Smart Dialer (lets you call people in whatever way you like) and an onscreen keyboard.

Since iPhone 3G has failed to create a success story in Indonesia so far, let's wait and see how Google's Android could deal with Asia's emerging market. Nokia still leads the country's market, while BlackBerry is the only new player that could gain popularity among Indonesian mobile users.
