Indonesia's Kompas daily goes blogging

Posted by budip
Indonesia's leading daily newspaper Kompas has launched its Weblog, Kompasiana, following Tempo, the country's respected and influential media, which launched its blog in early 2007.

Both blogs are written in Bahasa Indonesia.

Tempo news magazine, which also publishes the daily Koran Tempo, is the first mainstream media (MSM) in the country to venture into the blogosphere.

Prior to launching this blog, Kompas actually already had a blog feature for its reader community. Powered by WordPress Multiple Users (WP-MU), the newspaper's editors and journalists--as well as guest bloggers--have posted their articles in Kompasiana.

Kompas was first published in June 1965 and now has a daily circulation of more than 500,000 copies on weekdays and more than 600,000 copies on weekends.

Ah, yes. I also noticed that Indonesia's English newspaper, The Jakarta Post, will also launch its Weblog later this year.

Congratulations. Indonesia's mainstream media rocks!
