Indonesia's Web 2.0 services

Posted by budip
Indonesia has moved forward beyond the blogosphere: The country is already entering the new world, called Web 2.0 services. Several user-generated content services have already launched, and the country's community appears to have responded to them enthusiastically.

According to Wikipedia, the phrase Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second-generation of Web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies--which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing among users.

The country's new services including social-networking sites like Fupei and AkuCintaSekolah, multimedia-sharing sites like LayarTancap and SharingFoto, and micro-blogging services such as Kronologger and MoodMill.

The most interesting thing is that all the services are designated to be Indonesian--a very emerging market in the region.

In terms of content and audience, this phenomenon emphasizes that social-networking services (as well as blogging acitvities) tend to be local.

These new developments indicate that the country's local contents have grown faster. Since all content is put into the local hosting providers, of course, it can save Internet bandwidth significantly.

Disclaimer: Kronologger is one of Asia Blogging Network services where I became the CEO.
