Indonesia's Net access almost recovers

Posted by budip
Almost two week after the 7.1 Richter Scale earthquake in the Taiwan peninsula that has disrupted internet access across Asia, Internet access in Indonesia has almost recovered to normal.

Some Internet service providers as well as cellular operators claim their Internet access has gone backed to normal starting end of December.

The third biggest GSM operator, Excelcom, for example, announced that starting December 29 last year, Internet access using XL services had recovered. Customers can now access Web using XL 3G, XL GPRS or other services for corporate customers.

However, the Internet access disaster in the country has already raised an important lesson, too--yeah, it's just like a blessing in disguise.

Indonesian people have been made aware that it's urgent for Indonesians to create and enjoy local online content and services. So far, as a report said, almost 80 percent of total bandwidth consumption is being used to access overseas hosting-based content and services.

If there are more local contents and services, when the Internet disaster happens again, probably Indonesia will not suffer as much as before.
