Streaming online movies will soon be WAY EASY

Posted by RickM
A whole lot easier that is, for people who can't read Chinese (It was always pretty easy for those who can!). Lyn Jeffery of Virtual China points out that TV-links.co.uk, a site which has never hosted pirated media but instead just points people toward it, has started linking to content hosted on Chinese video Web sites.

Why is this a big deal? Well, let me tell ya why. Read more »

Chinese dude plays Super Contra Super Efficiently

Posted by RickM
Man, I miss playing these old games... Shinobi was always my favorite. But Contra was a great one as well. I always loved the different guns, or types of shooting patterns that you could get in this game. Whether it was the Spread or Lazer gun, this was never a game where you'd need to save your bullets. I remember when I played, my thumb was almost continuously held on the shoot button. I suppose I could have even put some tape over it...

But check out this Chinese dude. He doesn't bother shooting at all until he reaches the big boss at the end of each round! Read more »

So I'm really happy today to be able to write about something a bit more positive.

The impossible China dream?

Posted by RickM
As a native English speaker in China, very often Chinese people come to you with stuff they want you to proofread. Such was the case today when a former Chinese tutor asked me to look over her resume. It had a few grammar mistakes, which we corrected pretty swiftly.

But in addition to her resume, she had a letter that she would be sending to her prospective employers.

Despite many more pre-editing grammar mistakes, the ambition of that letter quite simply blew me away.

Here's an excerpt:Read more »

Davos Dalian: A final word and I'm done

Posted by RickM
As a followup to my post about the World Economic Forum here in Dalian China, and to my recent mini-rant where I might have called some people vegetables (sorry, guys, but if you had invited me, none of this woulda happened), I thought I'd get in a last few words on this topic.

And to do that, I'm gonna bring in some authorities much higher than myself when it comes to China and the Internet:
