BlackBerry: It's the new opium

Posted by RickM
BlackBerry's stock shot up a whopping 9.8 percent after Tuesday's announcement that the handsets will be made available in China. That's interesting considering that BlackBerry is virtually unknown among the general public here. But it is the largest mobile market in the world, isn't it? And it's damn near guaranteed that once people catch on to what the "crackberry" can do, as well as the initial status that it's going to bring them (always a big selling point in China), you can expect that RIM and its shareholders will feeling a high comparable to that of... well... crack.

Ironically, the report itself has been blocked by the Internet censors in China:
Here's the report on RSF's site,
and here it is hosted elsewhere in case you're reading from China.

Chinese dudes build full-size Transformer!

Posted by RickM

I know I'm probably posting too much--first about China's iPhone non-sightings, then on Arstechnica's ridiculous misreport. But when I saw this on virtualchina.org, I just had to go out and find some more photos. Some dudes down in Nanjing just built a full-size Transformer! Costing US$8,000 and weighing in at a hefty 600kg--well, you just gotta see this sucker for yourself. Here are the pics (UPDATE, and a video or two. Read more »
