Little Red Blog
Will the Middle Kingdom sinicise its latest barbarian invader?
Passing the torch
Posted by RickMRyan is a cornerstone of the China blogosphere, and is as prolific a blogger as you'll find here in the Middle Kingdom. Lost Laowai and HaoHao Report are among his best known China-related projects, and he's even got his own Web design company to boot. First and foremost though, he's an amazing writer. It is partly a result of reading his personal blog that I decided to start blogging myself. Dare I say, he's my blogging Yoda. ;)
I encourage readers of this site to stay tuned for Ryan's thoughts and insights on China. If you learn even half as much as I've learned from him over the years, you'll do just fine.

As for me, I'll be heading off to Tokyo, Japan, very soon. It's been a good run here for me in China, but-- well, it's just time. The China scene is one that I leave with a lot of mixed feelings. I'm often disappointed and saddened by certain things that I've seen here. But I also realize that change is occurring at an unprecedented pace, and that gives me hope. It's been an amazing thing to witness, and I'm going to continue to keep one eye fixed on China even though I'll be in Japan.
I'm glad to say that I'll be staying on as a CNET Asia blogger, focusing on the Japan tech scene from here on in. I'm super excited about going over there and checking out the world's most vibrant tech scene first-hand. Should be a blast!

Goodluck Rick with your new assignment. I won' say goodbye but "see you later bro". Welcome Ryan.

Thanks a lot for the warm (and well-linked) introduction Rick, and had I known that getting me liquored up on my last trip to Dalian was all a ploy so you could post disheveled images of me online - well, I would have straightened my shirt. ;-)

Hey, Rick
Sorry to see you moving on, but it'll probably be nice to have a new beat.
Ryan, welcome to LRB at long last. I recall you were a finalist when Rick got the gig.
Nice to know the franchise is still in good hands.

Congrats, best of luck, and enjoy the sushi!
Nov 03, 2008 13:39
Cheers Will.
And thanks for the opportunity way back when.
It's been a lot of fun.
Looking forward to reading what Ryan has to say on here.

Woot, Japan! I've been waiting for those shoes to be filled since Mobile Ojisan left the job. Can't wait to see your first post from Tokyo.
Also, welcome, Ryan!

I doubt I can fill those shoes, but I'll give it my best!
Cheers John. :)

You will be missed Rick, but Ryan is a great replacement. A great lineage of authors of this little red blog.
Nov 05, 2008 07:45
Thanks man.
Ryan will be awesome.
Just an update though, I think the LRB name will be retired, and Ryan will come in with a shiny new blog name. Stay tuned for that one!
Nov 05, 2008 09:34
Does that mean the feed URL will be changing, or will it remain the same for all us subscribers?
Nov 05, 2008 13:26
Not quite sure Nicolas.
I'm always pleasantly surprised by the number of readers this site pulls in, and I hope to keep them with us if possible.
But ultimately I'll leave it up to the powers that be. In any case, but I'll definitely keep you posted.

Good luck Ryan. Will be keeping you on the radar.
Rick, we are SO waiting for you here in Japan. Look forward to seeing you soon!

To any that happen to still be following this thread, the Little Red Blog has been retired in name only. Its legacy continues in the posts of The Tech Dynasty (asia.cnet.com...)
Rick, perhaps if you get a chance, you can throw a link up in the body of the post, as I'm sure some people are WTFing the blog's disappearance.
