Protesting 2.0?
Posted by RickMIf the Chinese Government was upset about the ruckus caused by video-sharing sites, wait till they get a load of live streaming!
And of course, the emergence of these Web services is just in time for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the most politicized Olympic Games since Moscow. There were already protests in 2007 around the one-year-to-go mark, and as the games approach we're sure to see more.
Now, of course, I would never do such a thing. But if I were to participate in such a protest, I'd make sure that many of my fellow protesters are equipped with mobile phones capable of streaming live video. Naturally I'd use one of the services above to do so. Ideally, I'd have everyone decked out with a Nokia N95 as I hear that's the phone of choice for anyone looking to stream live video.
I wonder what kind of budget RSF or FLG is working with?
To my knowledge, Nokia is not an Olympic sponsor, but maybe it'll end up playing an important role in the games nonetheless.
*Note: Seesmic isn't quite live streaming video, but a live real-time thread of videos which are uploaded by its users. Think of it as video Twitter.

It's an interesting situation, but I wouldn't expect to see much live video from mobile sources. That would assume that either China's creaky GSM network or less widely used CDMA-1x network supports streaming video. Or that a citywide TD-SCDMA network gets going and anyone has a video handset that will work on it. People might live-streaming video from Japan or Korea, but that wouldn't have quite the oomph of something coming straight from the Bird's Nest. Might see some things from hardwired connections, thought.
