Attention Yahoo! Please send the powers-that-be in Zhongnanhai a few cartons of Zhongnanhai.

On the heels of the Flickr ban, reports are starting to trickle in that Yahoo has been blocked in China. That would be a pretty bold move, even for the Chinese Net nanny. Yahoo.com isn't working right now. Same for most other regional sites that I tried. Yahoo Canada, Yahoo Korea, Yahoo France, and Yahoo Thailand--all no go. Yahoo China is still up and running, however, seemingly unscathed by whatever has managed to bring down all the nasty foreign Yahoos.

But here's an interesting twist

Yahoo Japan can be accessed with no problem! Can someone explain to me how that one happened? Someone's crazy idea of an olive branch in Sino-Japanese relations maybe? Come on, guys, you can do better than that!

Could all this just be a technical problem?

Lets hope someone just tripped over the Yahoo plug...

If not, the Great Firewall can expect another round of colorful insults from millions of Chinese netizens.

Yahoo now seems to be working again. I really hope this was just a temporary glitch.

Update #2 - June 29

It seems Vietnam also experienced a similar Yahoo crash. Maybe the Great Firewall was not to blame at all. I'm sending them some apology-cigarettes as we speak!
