Software to manage your time

My parents are in the midst of renovating the house. They are very pleased with the work that have been done so far.

The owner/manager who's been awarded the renovation contract is very hands-on. He doesn't just order his workers around, he participates in the work as well.

His workers are not as diligent as him but under his watchful eyes, they dare not make any mistake. If they do, they will have to start all over again.

We've seen his workers tearing down an entire wall that they've just built up because he found it to be slightly crooked. Oops!

Unfortunately, this also means there is a lot of time delays. And my parents don't have much time to spare! The reason they are renovating is to enlarge the house by early September because my brother is bringing home a beautiful bride. ;)

I was tempted to suggest that the renovators use a time tracking software. A little bit more about this software,

Atlantic Project Planning Software stores all project data in a central repository enabling employees, project managers and executives to access project information quickly and efficiently via the web.

Atlantic Resource Scheduling Software provides an intelligent method of optimising the allocation of resources across your project portfolio. Utilising an integrated skills database, Atlantic Project Planning enables you to resource plans with virtual resources or best fit employees based on their skill competences, experience and availability – providing estimates to go, optimised resource schedules and increased productive utilisation.

Since the owner/manager is managing a few projects at various locations at the same time, I thought this may help. But then, I'm sure he's used to his way of doing things so our best bet is to seek help from above, lol!

A green Olympics by Haier

I have no idea why I don't own any Haier products. We see it everywhere around us--on billboards, in shops, etcetera. It is one of the best-known Chinese brands in the world.

Haier is supplying all venues of the Beijing Olympics with 13,236 green refrigerators, 1,500 green washing machines, 2,864sqm of solar power panels and fitting each venue with green air-conditioners.

The fourteen laptops that meet the EPEAT Gold Standard

The EPEAT Registry includes products that have been declared by their manufacturers to be in conformance with the environmental performance standard for electronic products--IEEE 1680--2006 and EPEAT operates a verification program to assure the credibility of the Registry.

A new EPEAT verification report came out in June 2008 and, according to this, of the 250 laptops that made it to the registry, 14 did even better--they made it to the EPEAT Gold Standard registry.

Just how sincere is HP?

As you know, I'm in the market for a new laptop. I have asked friends who know better which brand I should get and one name that has popped up a few times: HP. I've also had the chance to chat with various folks who work for HP and I've heard from them about the great effort HP has made to go green. Apparently, this change is permeating every step of the workflow--from conceptualizing to creating, to designing, manufacturing, supply chain, marketing, sales, etcetera.
