The wireless WAVE
Posted by AnakBruneiThe implementation of the national project called "WAVE" in the country will provide another option for users to connect to the Internet with ease other than the currently available broadband connection dubbed e-speed2.
Forty-five base stations have been set up across the country and, according to TelBru, with WAVE or Wireless Access Via Ethernet, users will need to only locate and connect to any of the WAVE networks using PDAs, laptops or mobile devices with Wi-Fi capabilities to access the Internet anywhere and at anytime at affordable rates.
Furthermore, public services that can be delivered electronically will be available online. This can range from information publication to interactive, fully transactional services and integrated e-services.
As the premier Internet service provider in the country, TelBru with this latest initiative aim to bridge the digital gap and push ahead with the nation's development through leveraging ICT in the Sultanate.
Internet penetration will certainly increase with the availability of such a service nationwide. The penetration level was 6 percent in 2000, five years after BruNet, a dial-up Internet access, started. In 2004, it rose to 30 percent after the introduction of a broadband Internet connection called e-Speed in 2001.
