World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2007
Posted by AnakBrunei
This year's theme for WISD is "Connecting the Young: The opportunities of ICT". Young people are the best promoters of ICTs and are key contributors to building an inclusive information society. This should be taken into account in all actions and projects targeting the use and access of ICT, not only as a way to widen ICT opportunities for children and young people, but also as a way to accelerate the bridging of the digital divide and contribute to the development of the telecommunication sector as a whole.
So how did we celebrate it in Brunei?
Well, the local telco regulator, Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry or AiTi, organized an essay writing competition for young people. The results have been announced, but I have yet to read the winning essays. However, I am expecting some really great essays from these kids because as Diamondatrix, a local blogger puts it: "Information is at their fingertips. You can span the globe with a click of the mouse... all it takes is a few clicks of your mouse and you have what you need."
