Brunei ICT Career Day

The first Brunei ICT Career Day (BICT) organized by InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) took place over last weekend. The event was aimed at generating more local certified ICT professionals. The response was overwhelming with over 1,000 visitors and a total of 685 registered users who intended on becoming certified ICT professionals over the two-day exposition. Among the major companies taking part in the expo were TelBru, Brunei Shell Petroleum, IBM, Oracle, Royal Brunei Airlines, as well as some of the local banks.

What? No Internet?

A couple of weeks ago, the main broadband service provider experienced a major meltdown which affected Internet access to nearly all subscribers. What everyone assumed to be a temporary outage became FOUR loooong days sans broadband connection!

Innovation center officially opens

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has officially launched Brunei's first Info-Communications incubator, iCentre, at Anggerek Desa, at the end of March. According to HRH, the BEDB iCentre is a very special project and it's for a very special group of people--our own men and women with great ideas and lots of courage who want to prove themselves in the business world.

ICT Career Day? In Brunei? Really??

Yes, really. The severe shortage of ICT workers, particularly those who are certified professionals, in our country has prompted the Infocom Federation of Brunei to organize the first ICT Career Day in Brunei.

Bruneiandroid Codefest concludes

The Bruneiandroid Codefest workshop, initiated by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and supported by the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), concluded last Friday.

The workshop witnessed the results of Brunei's pioneer Android developers. The attendees included a mixed group of young and old, students and professionals, private-sector and public-sector participants. This was the first time AITI had championed such an activity.
