LX3 successor to have Four Thirds sensor, 3x optical zoom lens?

43rumors dropped us an email today to give us more information about the Panasonic LX3 successor. According to him, the new shooter will be unveiled at the Photokina tradeshow in Germany come September next month. Specifications are vague for now, but he seems pretty certain that the point-and-shoot will employ a Four Thirds imaging sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and an optical viewfinder with markings to denote wide-angle and telephoto focal length.

He also told us that Olympus will introduce a partial modular system for its Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds range at Photokina. He said the sensor is not interchangeable, but users can switch between different electronic viewfinders and LCDs. He also let us in on a Micro Four Thirds snapper with an onboard EVF, to be announced at the tradeshow, too.

As for Samsung, the blog said the NX100 will be shown at Photokina as well, together with new Schneider-branded lenses. This rumor has been floating on the Web for a while, and we verified with several other sources who confirmed with us that the NX100 is in Samsung's pipeline.

For now, all these are just rumors and speculations, so take them with a pinch of salt. But I'm really hoping the Panasonic camera is real as I've been wishing for a compact with such specifications for a long time.

Update: Our source, 43rumors, has published the rumor on its blog and changes have been made to this article to reflect it.
