The Optimus LTE with its 4.5-inch True HD IPS display (1,280 x 720 pixels) and dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5GHz processor could be the ray of hope that LG needs, especially since the company has so far failed to hit its 30 million smartphone sales target for 2011.
Furthermore, Gartner reports indicate that LG is sitting at third place with just 21 million mobile devices in the last quarter, far behind its keen competitor Samsung, which sold almost 80 million devices in the same period. The company's Q3 numbers show that its mobile division continues to bleed money.
Good reviews such as the one done by our sister site CNET who state that the Optimus LTE is "one of the best smartphones available today" does seem like LG has finally made something worthy of attention, especially given the competition from HTC and Samsung.
With few countries in the region having LTE networks, it's likely we won't see the phone appearing in stores outside of Korea and Japan anytime soon. It's a shame really, as this smartphone looks to be a killer device with specs comparable to the upcoming Galaxy Nexus.
