Intel's sub-US$400 laptop
Intel says its Eduwise notebook design, unveiled at the WCIT, runs Windows XP and should cost less than US$400. Rival Advanced Micro Devices, meanwhile, used the event to promote its own low-cost PC for developing nations, the Personal Internet Communicator.

At the the World Congress on Information Technology in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, Intel CEO Paul Otellini demonstrated a prototype sub-US$400 laptop that Intel plans to launch with partners starting next year.

In a separate keynote address, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told delegates they could be "the hub and source of using IT to transform society".
