InFocus' new mega projector lineup
In 2010, InFocus will be changing its direction to focus on digital projection solutions for businesses. Aside from the 12 models now shipping to Singapore, there're the new IN100- and IN5300-series due in this quarter (refer to the slide below). To complement these products in the sub-65-inch display size range, InFocus is venturing into the flat-screen segment by launching its pilot INF-series full-HD LCD panels in the coming months. Furthermore, solid-state lighting-driven projectors utilizing the latest LED and laser technologies are slated for 2011, according to Benjamin Joy, director of Product Management.
IN1500-series multimedia projectors
For the small- to medium-sized businesses, InFocus is introducing the IN1500-series beamers combining a short-throw lens and 1.2x optical zoom in a relatively light and compact form factor. These enable edge-of-table projection ideal for smaller meeting rooms and intra-office deployments to share a single beamer. All these capabilities are met without compromising image legibility, thanks to the range's bright 3,000:1 lumens output.
In addition to a regular PC input, simplified A/V connectivity is adequately catered for via an onboard HDMI 1.3 port and USB-centric DisplayLink function. DisplayLink further offers plug-and-project ability using inexpensive USB cables with wireless upgradeability up to a 10m range through an optional adapter. The higher-resolution IN1503 also comes with a LitePort JPEG reader for PC-free presentations on USB thumbdrives.

IN2100- and IN3100-series multimedia projectors
To meet user demand for mainstream projection in educational institutions and enterprises, InFocus has lined up the value-oriented IN2100- and IN3100-series. Affordability aside, these beamers feature longer lamp life, dual PC inputs and InFocus LiteShow II addon compatibility for wireless A/V playback up to HD resolution. With the exception of the IN2112, all models will come with the LitePort JPEG reader and wired networking function to support remote management as well as instant message broadcast.
The IN3100-series goes one step further by including the IN1500's DisplayLink and HDMI connectivity options at a competitive pricing, while bumping up the brightness to 3,500 ANSI lumens.

IN5500-series multimedia projectors
On the other end of the spectrum, the IN5500-series is designed for large venue installations. These heavyduty projectors push the performance envelope with their ultra-high 7,000:1 lumens brightness and 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. To ensure fail-safe operation and a hassle-free setup, these beamers can accommodate dual lamps, have interchangeable lenses and are equipped with motorized lens shift.
Aside from a full suite of A/V sockets, the IN5500-series can display two separate sources concurrently in multiple configurations using InFocus' SplitScreen technology. They are also customizable using skins (or top covers) in glossy black, matt back/white or walnut finish to better blend in with the surroundings.

ScreenPlay 8602 home theater projector
The revived ScreenPlay-series of home theater projectors comes in the form of a full-HD SP8602 offering a high 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (DCR) or twice the performance of its Play Big IN83 predecessor. Although this figure pales against the 200,000:1 DCR Epson EH-TW4500 from the rival 3LCD camp, the actual native contrast disparity is less significant at 5,000:1 and 6,000:1 for the InFocus and the latter, respectively. Other notable enhancements are built-in 120Hz motion processing to smoothen and sharpen movie playback, plus manual vertical and horizontal lens shift to facilitate off-center screen installations.
Onboard video upscaling is also taken care of by a dedicated Pixelworks DNX video processor. There's also full 2.35 cinemascope support to enable ultra-widescreen compatibility which eliminates letterbox bars caused by watching Blu-ray/DVD movies in 16:9 panels. While we feel InFocus has made the right choice of throwing in dual HDMI inputs, we're hardly convinced it needs three sets of legacy component-video sockets. That said, the generous selection is handy for the SP8602's SplitScreen capability to simultaneously display films and games, for example. Rounding up the extras are an extended five-year warranty, DisplayLink and ceiling detection to automatically reorientate the projection.
