HTC Tattoo: Entry-level Android smartphone

Update: The Tattoo's specs include a 528MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Interestingly, its 2.8-inch screen has 240 x 320 pixels. This probably helps keep the price low, but gives it only half the resolution of other Android phones currently on the market.

Following its release of the HTC Hero with the company's Sense user interface (UI), the Taiwan-based manufacturer today announced a lower-end version for the mass market, the HTC Tattoo. Shown in leaks over the last few months as the Click, this smartphone is based on the Google Android operating system and comes complete with the manufacturer's Sense UI.

So far, HTC has given very little information about the specifications of the Tattoo. We only know it will come with a 3.2-megapixel camera and 3.5mm audio jack and will update this blogpost with more information as it becomes available.

HTC's earlier full-touchscreen Android smartphone, the Magic, retails for S$1,098. But the higher-end Hero was just announced at S$898, so we expect a price adjustment for the Magic soon. The company hasn't announced how much the Tattoo costs, but since it's positioned as an entry-level Android handset, we expect it be even cheaper than whatever new pricing HTC gives the Magic.
