Yesterday, we talked about Garmin-Asus' latest Android phone, the nuvifone A10. One of the downsides we mentioned was that it ran on the older version 1.6 of Google's mobile operating system, also called Donut. Today, we got some good news from the manufacturer--a free software update to Android 2.1 expected out at the end of July.
Also called Eclair, the latest version brings quite a few enhancements including native Microsoft Exchange support, improved virtual keyboard and animated wallpapers. Furthermore, a number of recently released Google apps require Eclair to run, so this upgrade will add to the appeal of the nuvifone A10.
What about an upgrade for the nuvifone A50, which was also announced with Android 1.6? Garmin-Asus was not able to give a confirmation and would say only that "the update is under evaluation". Seeing how similar the A10 is to the A50, let's hope the latter doesn't get left out in the cold.
