PushMail Demystified
These days you no longer need to be stuck at your PC to read your emails. With advanced technology, gaining access to your emails has increasingly become more convenient and sophisticated. StarHub Mobile offers a service called PushMail that allows you to stay connected to your emails even when you are on the move.
Unlike the usual "pulled" emails, PushMail "pushes" emails to your mobile device automatically as and when they arrive. Not only do you enjoy the convenience of getting emails wherever you are, you also don't have to keep checking your Inbox for that critical email.
PushMail is just like getting SMS but with complete attachments, similar to emails on your PC. PushMail also automatically synchronizes your mobile Inbox and your PC Inbox so both Inboxes will always be updated together at any one time. What's more, you will also be able to get your emails even when you are overseas as long as you subscribe to international roaming. Most PushMail solutions also offer secure connection by providing encryption on emails.

Choosing the right PushMail solution
Today there are at least four to five major PushMail technology providers. In Singapore, StarHub Mobile is the pioneer in bringing PushMail to Singapore and it offers five different PushMail solutions, two from BlackBerry - BlackBerry for Individual and BlackBerry Enterprise and three from Duality - Duality Professional, Duality Internet and Duality Enterprise.
BlackBerry for Individuals and Duality Internet are both hosted solutions which means you don't need to install an additional server or pay for professionals to set up your service. Configuration is done via a simple web browser and the backend equipment is hosted by StarHub and its technology partners. These two solutions are ideal for those who prefer to do set-up themselves without the hassle of relying on a third-party. However, corporate emails running on Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino email servers generally do not work with these two solutions, which are more suitable for those who want to access their personal email accounts.
Both the BlackBerry Enterprise and Duality Enterprise solutions are ideal for corporations who want to enable their staff to access the full corporate suite of emails, calendar, contacts and tasks on their mobile devices. These two solutions offer a secure connection and users can also synchronize these services in real-time over-the-air. To enable these solutions, your IT department need to install the backend PushMail server before the staff can start using the service.

Lastly, Duality Professional is targeted at those who need to access the full corporate suite of Exchange/ Domino emails, calendar and contacts on their mobile devices but prefer a simple installation on a normal PC. Each PC can support up to five Duality PushMail accounts. The advantage of this solution is that you are able to install the server on your own to access office emails without the need to go through the company's backend server.

Select your favourite PushMail supported handset
Traditionally, you'll need a BlackBerry mobile device to use a BlackBerry solution. But today, many mainstream brands like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Dopod and others offer smartphones with Blackberry Connect that lets you access the BlackBerry service on your regular smartphone. However, BlackBerry Connect devices do have some limitations as compared to their "pure" BlackBerry cousins. For example, you can't synchronize your contacts wirelessly.
If you want more mobile phone options, the Duality solution might be more ideal. Duality is supported by more handsets. Suitable for those who want to enjoy PushMail and yet do not want to compromise on the aesthetics of the phone.
