Stolen work
This patch is simply the Nvidia patch from EA, and the Chocobo Race patch handcrafted by the people at forums.qhimm.com. These patches were put together by the people who made this and released it. Furthermore, this patch is NOT offiical, and hence is illegal as it is the product of reverse engineering FF7. It more than doubles the size of FF7.exe for no apparent reason; more than likely this is the fault of bad code. Moreover, every time I run it, it says FF7 isn't installed on my system... and it is...

Makes it work in Direct3D on XP
This patch fixed the program so it will at least work on my system. It's not my place to be picky or whine about reverse engineering because product support for the FF7 extends only to Windows 95 as far as I know. So the companies basically will NEVER help you. Thank these people for putting together a patch that is easy to obtain and broad in its application.

Instead of bragging about how good it is, this "patch" should come with a big warning sign
First of all, I'm not doing this out of spite just because AnimeVamp stole our work (a.k.a. the FF7 chocobo patch) without giving credit. As someone here previously stated, this patch is merely a conglomeration of other patches, mostly made by other people and used without acknowledging any of their work. I can agree that this makes it easier for people to use these patches, but it also does a lot of stuff without the user even knowing about it. For example, last time I checked, it overwrote your Windows MIDI instrument library (gm.dls) without asking. While this may improve the sound of the FF7 music, it also has the nasty side effect of ruining your chances of playing any other MIDI music normally on your computer. Instead of warning the user when wreaking havoc on your comp, AnimeVamp decided to market this as another "feature". If it weren't so eager to pump up its own ego (even naming it *THE* FF7 XP patch), this patch could've been something useful. Now it's just a sad hack with way too many superlatives written onto it.

Stolen and useless
It is as Qhimm says. He made no part of this patch except to make it worse than the whole of several other patches combined. While it may help your game's MIDI, it hurts any other MIDI you want to play. This is like slapping several smaller patches that other people (no names) have made into a package and claiming credit for it. Also, it is illegal. The patch did not come from Squaresoft® or SquareEnix®, etc. And I have had no problems running Final Fantasy VII® in Windows® XP with no patches. So it is useless.

Patch affects
Sure, maybe the author of the patch did use other people's work but the point is for those who are complaining, they are truly the only people making updates for FF7 because SquareSoft and EA don't support their software anymore. As for the legality of it, as far as I know, they have contacted a lot with SquareSoft in making sure they are within legal form. Guess people don't read or forget to read how and why this patch keeps getting updates. Either way, if you are so worked up about someone stealing your work, why don't you give them competition instead of complaining?
Either way the patch has helped a lot of people who just don't care what it does to their MIDI system. It says in the user agreement that they take no responsibility for what it does. Use at your own risk.
However, people keep proving they don't know how to read. Can't enjoy a person who refuses to see others' work even if it comes at the cost of pride. You don't have to use it, it's very simple, a choice deal. All they did was put it out for public use. Don't like it? Make something better, which I haven't seen.

Doesn't support ATI Radeon cards
In order for this to work, first of all you are definitely gonna need the reference drivers for your card and I mean your Nvidia card (it works with BOTH my GF MX400 and GF4 ATI 4200) because NOT ONE of the Radeon reference drivers support paletted textures, which are as you know very important for the graphics of this game. For ATI Radeon users (I tested on a 9800 Pro) this patch is completely useless...

Rips off other people's work
This patch is an uncredited rip-off of the eidos 1.02 patch and Qhimm/Jedwins Chocobo race patch. In addition, it replaces a Windows system file without telling the end user. In addition, this change does not benifit ff7 in any way. While the patch works for most, not all, people, it is not the work of Animevamp like they claim, and that ain't cool.

Not working
It doesn't work when you need to start disk two. It hangs and the screen flickers asking for disk 2.

It works
I was finally able to pass the chocobo race without the game crashing. It still doesn't like my geforce4 mx, though.
