Should I upgrade to the Nikon D90 or D5000?

Dec 11, 2009

Question on Digicams:

Hi, I would like to upgrade from a Nikon D40 to either a D90 or D5000. My first choice is the D90 simply because it received many recommendations. But since the D5000 has been released, its pricing and specifications being similar to the D90 made me reconsider. What do you suggest?

Yes, I agree that the Nikon D90 and the D5000 have very similar specifications. However, the D90 is oriented more for the midrange users, while the D5000 is targeted at entry-level shutterbugs. That said, the tilt/swivel LCD on the D5000 is a handy tool for capturing shots at overhead angles or waist level.

The build of these two shooters are slightly different, too. The D90 is more robust while some users have commented that the D5000 feels a bit fragile, probably due to its plastic body construction.

Check out our reviews and list down your needs first before making a decision.
