For a phone bought in the US to work in Singapore, it'd have to support GSM frequency bands. Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel are two major US carriers that use CDMA technology, so you can't use handsets bought from these operators. GSM 900 and 1,800 are used in most parts of the world including Europe and Asia, while GSM 850 and 1,900 are used in the US and Canada for example. So you'll need to ensure that the correct frequency bands are supported on the handset.
