I saw a few of my friend's photos and they have a clear image but blurred background. Is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77 capable of producing such an effect, too?

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77 is capable of delivering pictures with very shallow depth-of-field, which is to have the subject sharp and the foreground/background blurred. You just have to turn on the macro mode on the camera and focus on the subject. Try to give the background more space in the frame and it should look slightly blurred. Experiment with different shooting angles to see which gives you the best results.
