Will a US-bought PSP work in India?

Jul 3, 2009

Question on Music & Play:

If I buy a Sony PSP in the US, will it work in India? I'm asking because the voltage used in India is 220V while it's 110V in the US.

Most Sony PSP retail units will ship with a power adapter that works from 100V-240V, but it would be safer to double check before plugging it into your wall socket. The PSP will work in your country if the included AC adapter works within that range. But note that you may have to purchase a new power cord or use an adapter as the US version of the PSP will come with a US power plug.

Update: Here's an answer to an earlier question regarding the use of UMD games/videos and firmware updates of a US PSP in India.

other than the voltage, you should be aware that the UMD or universal media disc (the disc that contains the actual game) is Region specific. that is, UMD's bought in India (who is under Region 5) will NOT play on a PSP bought in the US who uses Region 1 UMD's

I have an old Japanese PSP and it works in both 110v and 220v countries. I'm not sure about the latest models but it shouldn't be an issue. PS3 is also dual voltage.

UMD movies are region locked. Since UMD arent common anymore shouldn't be an issue to anyone. Games are all region free.
