Which compact camera models have large sensors?

Jun 8, 2009

Question on Digicams:

Are there compact digital cameras currently available that come with bigger sensors? Will these be able to produce pictures comparable to what dSLRs offer?

In the current market, there are only two point-and-shoots that employ dSLR-sized sensors. The Sigma DP1 and the DP2 are fixed focal length compact shooters which produces dSLR-quality shots. However, the performance (aspects not related to image quality) of these snappers are not the best so that's one factor for consideration.

If you can make do with a smaller sensor, power compacts such as the Canon PowerShot G10, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, Nikon Coolpix P6000 and Fujifilm's FinePix F200EXR produce decent shots that are better than most conventional point-and-shoots.
