What's a good iTunes-free mass storage DAP?

Question on Music & Play:

Is there a good DAP out there which does not use MTP or iTunes?

When it comes to good DAPs that do not use MTP or iTunes, you have many choices from reputable brands out there such as Samsung, iriver and Cowon. Some players like the Philips GoGear Opus features a user-selectable MTP/MSC mode.

Look out for MSC (mass storage class) or "drag-and-drop" support as one of the features on the player. It is usually featured on the manufacturer's Web site. If a player comes bundled with its own software, it would be wise to double check the specifications if it would operate without the software installed in your PC.

How you would define "good" depends on your preferences. Some of the main factors include: Better audio quality, battery life, design or physical size. Prioritize these factors in your preference and it would help you greatly in deciding a good DAP for you. It is recommended to test the DAP before you make your purchase as this is a highly individual choice.
