Why and why do I a need to update display drivers? My laptop uses ATI Radeon graphics. Do I really need to update its drivers?

As a rule of thumb, it is always advisable to upgrade your display drivers to the latest stable version. We say this because, in some instances, beta drivers are available which may provide additional features at the cost of stability.

The reasons for a driver update are usually two-fold. One, the vendor might have included extra functionality or compatibility like DirectX 10.1. This is great for gamers as it gives more control over the video card as well as provide between rendering capabilities.

The second is to iron out certain bugs. This is of interest to all users, as it prevents possible rendering errors which might occur when a certain set of conditions are present. However, only install drivers downloaded from the official vendor Web site, as files from other sources might be corrupted or intentionally infected with malware.
