Which is better, the Canon 40D or Nikon D90?

Sep 16, 2008

Question on Digicams:

I am planning to get a dSLR soon. Based on your experience, would you prefer the Canon EOS 40D or Nikon D90? They are about the same price now.

Canon has already announced the EOS 50D, a souped-up version of the EOS 40D a couple of weeks back, so you may want to choose between Nikon's D90 and Canon's EOS 50D instead.

Choosing a dSLR can be a bit tricky. It boils down to preferences for the button layout, navigation menu and of course, the brand. But for your case, it is a little bit simpler. Nikon's D90 has HD-quality movie capture function, so if you fancy this feature for your next dSLR purchase, it would naturally be the Nikon.

But another question I need to ask you also is: Do you already have a set of lenses? If so, it is more cost-effective to buy a camera that your current arsenal of optics can fit onto.

Lastly, head down to your local retailer, ask for both units and try them both out. See how they fit in your hand and more importantly, which one you feel more comfortable using.

Got a question of your own?

Re: Nikon on CSI...

Either a) Nikon has better marketing ([or was able to outbid Canon for the product placement contract] or b) Nikon needs that sort of marketing stint to sell their products, while Canon doesn't

[I'm not bashing Nikon; although I am a bit biased towards Canon. FYI I shoot with an Oly]
