Plasma Panasonic vs. Samsung, and plasma Vs. LCD

Jun 15, 2008

Question on Home Entertainment:

I'm from India and am looking to buy a 42-inch plasma TV. I've been given to believe that Panasonic is the leader in plasmas. The Viera model (I think it was the TH-42PV7HS) I looked at was for Rs75,000. I also looked at Samsung's 4 Series 42-inch plasmas and it has two models for Rs53,000 and Rs61,000.

The price difference is quite a lot. Is the Panasonic worthy of such a price difference? Could you please let me know which one I should go for or if there is some other brand I should be looking at? Please also let me know if I'm correct in assessing that plasma is better than LCD overall?

If you're looking for high-end plasma TVs, do check out the Pioneer Kuros renowned for their deep blacks. As for the Panasonics, they are also excellent choices and offer good value-for-money. Samsung panels, on the other hand, have better design compared to the Japanese models.

Plasma is generally better than LCDs for black levels and color saturation. However, the smaller 42-inch plasmas have lower 1,024 x 768-pixel resolution compared to the LCDs with HD-ready 1,366 x 768. Having said that, the extra resolution is quite insignificant for such screen sizes.

Well i am using samsung plasma and its working great, all plasmas are prone to burn in effect, this is nothing specific to samsung, all latest plasma;s have anti burn in programs, like all white or pixel mover, go ahead and buy the samsung plasma , it works great for the price, panasonic is overpriced, in the end what matters is what suits the pocket, which is samsung, that's why i bought a samsung plasma
