Camera-phone or dedicated digital camera?

May 15, 2008

Question on Digicams:

Should I opt for the Sony Ericsson K850i (I currently have a K790i) or wait for Sony to announce a camera-phone with optical zoom? I plan to use my camera-phone as my point-and-shoot camera, and possibly buy a dSLR in the future.

It really depends on what you'll be using your pictures for. If image quality is what you are after, then I'd suggest you invest in a digital camera instead of a camera-phone. The reason being the picture quality and performance from a camera-phone still cannot match those produced by a dedicated digicam.

There are two camera-phones out in the market with optical zoom: The Nokia N93i and the Samsung SGH-G800. These are the two models you should be looking at if you really have to have a handset that provides optical zooming capabilities.
