Looking for a student laptop

Oct 25, 2007

Question on Notebooks:

I'm a student and would like to buy a laptop, preferably with long battery life, integrated Webcam and Bluetooth as well as one with Blu-ray disc drive. My budget is below $1,500. The laptop should be about 13-inch and preferably lightweight (<2kg?). Hopefully, the notebook enough space to contain my pictures. Any recommendations?

I assume you mean US$1,500 (S$2,193.60) as most decent 13.3-inch and smaller notebook models do not retail for less than S$1,500. At this price range, you may want to look at the following models.

1. Lenovo 3000 V1200 - Good battery life but rather thick for a 12.1-inch portable.

2. Acer TravelMate 6292 – A decent model from Acer with fingerprint sensor and Webcam. Not too impressed with battery life, though.

3. HP Pavilion tx1000 Tablet PC – One of the cheapest tablet PCs in the market. Battery life is not too good but some stores bundle in two cells.

4. BenQ JoyBook S32 – It is quite cheap for a 13.3-inch portable, but the top cover design is not for everyone.

I do not suggest getting a UMPC. Though they are cheap and portable, nonetheless most of them do not provide a sufficient computing and typing experience as a primary PC.
