How can I save all those old 8mm videos onto DVD?

Aug 10, 2006

Question on Videocams:

We owned a Sony 8mm video Handycam in the 1990s, and have a lot of accumulated 8mm video cassettes (some PAL, some NTSC) with some valuable family scenes. I mean, our two boys are grown up and cheeky now, so we want to be able to remind them what they looked like in nappies :-)

The camera no longer works so I can't dub the tapes onto VHS video or DVDs... Even if I could still buy a camera, it wouldn't be worth it just to dub these tapes...

I heard there are some commercial services that will take all your old 8mm videos and burn them onto DVD. We tried searching via Google, etc., but couldnt not find any. Do you know of any companies in Singapore that offer this service?

Thanks (from a harrassed father).

Had asked around a bit and the only lead I have is a production rental house called Cinegear (Tel: 6295 5884).

It still owns an 8mm Handycam (the owner's own), but he can convert to DVD for you for S$18 a piece. 8mm cams are a rare breed nowadays apparently.

Got a question of your own?
