Logitech ChillStream PC controller

Juniper Foo  |  Aug 24, 2006

If you're already a user of the Cool Fan Mouse, chances are you're afflicted by the Web surfer sweaty palm syndrome, particularly prone to strike when trawling the Net for certain, ahem, free pictures. In which case, you're also going to need a fan-cooled gamepad. Nyko may have pioneered the idea with its AirFlo controllers some time back. But, hey, it's free enterprise, and Logitech's ChillStream makes no bones that it's a PC gaming controller with built-in blower to chill overheated players. Had John Steinbeck thumped out his novel using a fan-based mouse, who knows... Of Mice and Fans?

The pod beneath the lace

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 24, 2006

Listening to Kylie Minogue on the iPod always gets us hot and heavy. How could we deny her throaty moans and suggestive whispers? Palms get sweaty, eyewear gets foggy, and heads get muzzy from all the blood rushing south. The missus would disapprove. Disguise your lust for audio intimacy by slipping the iGroove panty onto your beloved. Discreetly tuck your nano into the mini pocket and romp away. US$12.95 for this titillating tidbit.

Sony Ericsson to launch P990i...finally

Reuben Lee  |  Aug 23, 2006

The wait is over. Fans of the Sony Ericsson P990i can finally get a hold of the much-anticipated smart phone when it makes its way into Singapore stores on August 24. The QWERTY-equipped handset, the successor to the P910i, was first announced late last year for a Q1 2006 launch. However, due to strategic marketing reasons, the P990i was delayed once and then again, possibly to complement the launch of the M600i communicator.

The P990i's strongest suit is its connectivity. Like the Nokia E61, the P990i delivers the whole gamut from 3G to Wi-Fi, to USB, Bluetooth as well as support for push email clients like BlackBerry. The handset runs on the Symbian 9.1 OS and UIQ 3 software platform and features a 2-megapixel camera, FM radio with RDS (Radio Data System), thumbboard, 18-bit QVGA screen and an onboard Memory Stick Duo slot. The P990i will retail for S$1,288 (US$947.06) with a two-year plan and S$1,388 (US$1,020.59) without.

New LG LB series for better value

Philip Wong  |  Aug 23, 2006

How's the idea of a healthy upgrade for a fraction more? Sounds too good to be true? LG is doing exactly that with its latest LB series LCD TVs. Costing from 10 to 22 percent more than its months-old LC counterparts, the new models feature an enhanced 3,000:1 contrast ratio and identical paper specifications such as 500cd/m2 brightness and fast 8ms response time.

Its 42-incher even comes with an integrated 30W subwoofer for beefing up bass delivery, while a 20W stereo speaker system manages the mid and high ends. To complement its audio performance, the Korean company has also outfitted the sets with the DCDi deinterlacing engine renowned for eliminating video jaggies.

The 32LB1R, 37LB1R and 42LB1R are now available in Singapore with a free wall-mounting kit, complimentary installation and a three-year warranty covering both labor and hardware replacement.

Patch all, or don't patch at all

Darius Chang  |  Aug 23, 2006

If you are running the latest version of Internet Explorer on the older Windows Service Pack 1 (SP1) version, be warned. According to CNET News.com, the recent MS06-042 security update for Internet Explorer 6.0 introduces a serious new security flaw for systems which do not have the latest Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP installed.

Released as a solution to browser crash issues, the MS06-042 update may result in a "buffer overrun" problem that could be exploited by hackers. Those with Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 are not affected. For those who insist on keeping their older SP1 version, Microsoft suggests disabling the use of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) version 1.1 in the browser.
