It seems everyone is jumping on the rainbow bandwagon nowadays. From Dell Inspirons to Sony VAIOs, black, white and gray just don't cut it anymore.
Which is probably why MSI decided that its latest 12-inch portable should go the funky route. Available in pink, blue or green, the MSI PR210 YA Edition looks good enough to bring to your next rave party. But don't look too closely under the hood because it's business-like fingerprint sensor kind of throws off the wild image. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Webcam, Gigabit Ethernet and DVD writer actually make this a respectable corporate machine. A little like a hippy working in a law firm.

Here's a mobile phone that will stun you like nothing. Yes, we actually mean stun. As in 900,000 volts of pure charge going right through you. The online site touts this as "one of the highest voltage stun guns available"--which is good news for the one holding it, not so good news for the poor mite on the receiving end. Illegal or otherwise in Asia, we're betting there's always someone out there who'll try to smuggle this in. Dressed to kill, this looks like a phone (smacks of a Sony Ericsson), feels like one. That is until you point the top end of the device at your unwitting victim. There are two safety levels, in case you stupidly zap and fry yourself. Oh, and just to give the customer value for the money, this device also packs a 12 LED flashlight (to check out your wretched quarry in the dark?), a holster, and batteries. No word on just how much power this stunner sucks up per charge. But get this, you receive a lifetime warranty on this stun gun. Or is that a lifetime in the slammer?
Price: US$84.95 Availability: At SecuritySafetySpy Device: Stun gun Specs: 900,000 volts, bright 12 LED flashlight, holster, three CR2 batteries included
An interesting video has popped up which shows a Samsung PDA-phone with a trackball-like control. This was apparently shot during the GITEX event in the Middle East earlier in the month.
The person who shot the video, going by the name DinarSoft, also posted specifications of the new device on Pocket PC Thoughts, a Windows Mobile enthusiast site. This new device is supposedly named the i780 and comes with HSDPA connectivity, a 320 x 320-pixel display, Windows Mobile 6 Professional and an optical mouse which controls the pointer on the screen. We expect that this will be similar to the one found on the Raon Digital Everun UMPC.
In a separate dealer event in Amsterdam, this new handheld along with a host of other new phones were featured as well. We are waiting for the official word from Samsung, so just enjoy the video in the meantime.
Let's face it. There are definitely times in your life, like when you were stuck in the icy cold mountain caps of Nepal or lost in the scorching hot Gobi desert, that you wish you had a computer with you. Well, most notebooks will turn belly up if you ever take it out of city limits, but not the Dell Latitude ATG D630.
Built to military standards and described as a "stallion of a workhorse" (don't ask, don't tell) by Dell's PR agency, the Latitude ATG D630 builds upon the toughness of the Latitude ATG D620 and adds Santa Rosa to the mix. With a strong magnesium-alloy chassis, scratch-resistant paint, data security features, spill-proof keyboard and shock protection, it is a businessman in a tank.
But be warned. This baby is probably in cahoots with your chiropractor. If you are foolish enough to carry it on a regular basis, it may bend your spine over time. For a 14.1-inch machine, the ATG D630 actually makes a pretty decent 2.84kg dumbbell for the ladies. But one nice trick is the red LED keyboard light which gives you an eerie glow in the night--perfect for Halloween.
Oh, did we also forget to mention that it is not cheap, either? It is now available in Asia Pacific with a starting price of S$3,680 (US$2,498.30). So unless you are a soldier or great adventurer, it'll be cheaper to buy a normal Latitude D630 machine and ramp up the warranty to CompleteCover.
Imagine combining the force feedback capability of the Xbox 360's controller with those of Wii's motion sensors. That's no longer a pipe dream with Sony officially announcing its new PS3 controller. This has the good oled Dual Shock function found in its PS2 equivalent in addition to a new SixAxis motion-sensing system.
Interestingly, it will be based on the same form factor and design, though we are pretty sure it will weigh substantially more than the original piece. Battery life will probably be another touchy issue unless the Japanese company throws in a higher-capacity replacement.
Nonetheless, it's the game support that really matters and Sony has over 60 existing PS3 titles compatible with Dual Shock in the US. Some of these will require software updates to enable the rumble feature. As usual, there is no firm indication on Asia availability.
