Yurbuds enhance your existing earphones' fit

The comfort of earbuds, especially those issued with MP3 players, is often unpredictable--they fall out, sit loose, or just plain hurt.

Seth Burgett, CEO of St. Louis, Missouri-based Yurtopia, realized the need for a comfortable earbud while training for the Iron Man triathlon.

Using his background in minimally invasive surgical devices, he saw an opportunity for consumers to improve instead of replace their existing earbuds with "earbud enhancers."

Consumers can send in a photo of their ear, which Yurtopia uses to determine the correct size. There are a total of 12 different sizes, so although Yurbuds aren't individually molded, the range of sizes allows for a more appropriate fit.

WHDI 1.0 specifications pave way for wireless HD products

Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI) LLC recently announced the finalized WHDI 1.0 specifications. This will set a new guideline for companies to develop future wireless HD products ranging from consumer electronics to computers and mobile handhelds. On paper, WHDI 1.0 will support an uncompressed 1080p signal within an effective range of 30m through walls. This is on top of Deep Color and HDCP copy protection compatibility, as well as adequate bandwidth for resource intensive 60Hz video playback used by game consoles, etc.

According to its spokesperson, the first WHDI 1.0-based products are tentatively due in Q3 2010, encompassing primarily dongles, TVs and PCs. Other comparable solutions include the Wireless HDMI and WirelessHD. We should be hearing news from all the competing camps during the upcoming CES 2010 tradeshow soon. If these technologies take off, the days of sorting out unsightly cable spaghetti may finally come to an end.

Philips has been making some pretty aggressive moves for its Blu-ray products in recent months. First, it debuted the highly affordable S$399 (US$283.99) BDP3000 player followed closely by the midrange BDP7200 at S$499 (US$355.16). Now, the company is back to challenge its rivals with the S$849 (US$604.27) HTS7200 and S$1,299 (US$924.56) HTS7540 Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) kits announced in Singapore today.

The HTS7200 is a compact 2.1-channel system crafted in attractive aluminum and glass finishing. To playback high-resolution Dolby TrueHD surround sound, it employs Dolby Virtual Speaker technology which simulates multichannel sound using just a pair of stereo boomboxes. On the other hand, the HTS7540 is based on a traditional discreet 5.1-channel setup, adding an extra center and two rear speakers. This should improve sound steering for an immersive movie experience.

Fujitsu unveils the LifeBook UH900

Reuben Lee  |  Dec 09, 2009

Update (10/12/2009; 1810hrs): Fujitsu has further advised that the price is not firm. We will bring you more information as details become available.

Update: Fujitsu has informed CNET Asia that the Fujitsu LifeBook UH900 will be available in January 2010, and have an estimated retail price of S$1,800 (US$1,281.14).

The Japanese PC maker today announced the latest addition to its LifeBook family, the UH900. Weighing just 500g with a 204 x 106.5 x 23.8mm footprint, this is possibly the company's smallest and lightest handheld PC to date.

One of the things you'll probably find familiar about the UH900 is its form factor. Its longish and ultramobile design certainly brings to mind the Sony Vaio P series which made its debut earlier this year. In fact, both laptops feature the Intel Atom Z530 processor and SSD storage. While Fujitsu incorporates a smaller 5.6-inch screen (versus the Sony's 8-inch display), the WXGA resolution (1,280 x 800-pixel) ensures that there will be minimal scrolling when surfing the Web or handling documents, though it is unknown how tiny the text will be on the small panel.
