Sleepbox for 40 winks in a mobile box

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 11, 2009

Sleepboxes can be installed at train stations, airports and shopping centers. (Credit: Arch Group)

With more devices dedicated to the sleep deprived on the move, the Sleepbox is one concept I'm rooting for. It's probably not for the claustrophobic, given its box-like interior, but it draws inspiration from Japan's capsule hotels. Parked along stretches of an airport, this private nap space would be a boon for Economy Class overnighters with no access to a Business or First Class lounge with sleeping facilities. Not all of us plebs are that fortunate, and usually have to make do with stretching out on awkward plastic seats.

Though Windows 7 claims to boot faster than its predecessor, that is still not fast enough for some. The Lenovo Enhanced Experience uses extensive optimization on the system drivers, BIOS and third-party applications to decrease boot time, and now Asus FastBoot to do the same.

That tiny, plastic-looking black cube up there can absorb up to 180 times its own weight in toxic waste without absorbing any water. How? As with just about every amazing and/or inexplicable scientific breakthrough nowadays, the answer is spelled N-A-N-O.

Does the global, wireless Kindle have better contrast?

David Carnoy  |  Nov 11, 2009

Contrasting contrasts: The Kindle on the right is the new global-wireless model. (Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET)

When the Kindle 2 was first released, we reported on the small controversy over how dark the text and images appeared on the screen compared to the original Kindle. Held side by side, the original appeared to have better contrast and the text appeared slightly darker--and slightly easier to read.

It's not a huge difference but it's definitely noticeable (see photo above).
