HP on Monday introduced the HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web, believed to be the world's first Web-connected printer with a touchscreen. I had a chance to get an exclusive look at the new device, and I'm really impressed with HP's effort to reinvigorate the printer as the central hub in the digital home.
The Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web is poised to become HP's flagship printer when it's released in September. It's got all the common features we now expect to find in an HP Photosmart All-in-One, including printer/fax/copier/scanner, USB 2.0, 802.11b/g/n wireless, Ethernet, Bluetooth connectivity, HP's paper feed technology that automatically senses the size of media needed to a complete a job, five individual ink cartridges, and the ability to
print screenshots directly from a PlayStation 3.

Printing on both sides of the paper not only helps companies save on cost, it is also a good way to help save Earth. Brother has introduced four laser printers in the HL-5300 series which come with onboard automatic duplex printing. These machines are targeted at small and medium businesses.
The
HL-5340D,
HL-5350DN,
HL-5380DN and the
HL-5370DW have almost similar specifications: Up to 30 page-per-minute (ppm) print speeds for single side and 13ppm for duplex printing, a paper tray that holds 250 sheets of media and an approximate 3,000-page yield with the standard toner cartridge.
The HL-5380DN seems to be the most advanced model with a network interface and 16-digit LED display. The HL-5350DN and HL-5340D offer the same specifications save for an Ethernet port for the former for sharing the printer at home or in the office. The HL-5370DW has wireless networking capability to do away with cable clutter.
The HL-5340D is retailing for S$388 (US$280.12) now. The HL-5350DN, 5370DW and 5380DN's prices were unavailable at press time but will be made known closer to launch later this month.
