Snow Leopard cuts support for legacy Palm OS devices

Andrew Nusca  |  Aug 27, 2009

Apple has discontinued support for legacy Palm OS devices in Mac OS X Snow Leopard’s iSync 3.1.0, according to a report.

Users of legacy Palm OS devices must obtain third party support for syncing Palm Desktop data with Mac OS X’s Sync Services, according to sources quoted by AppleInsider.

Palm still provides an old version of Palm Desktop 4.2.1D for Mac users, which enables Palm Centro, Treo, Zire, Tungsten, LifeDrive and Pilot models to synchronize with its Mac OS X Universal Binary desktop software, according to the report.

Five months after the Xmini Max II and MP3-playing Xmini Happy were announced here at Crave Asia, they're finally ready to ship globally come mid next month. According to Singapore company XM-I, both speakers have had their drivers fine-tuned for better sound playback. Certainly, when we got a demo of the tweaked Max II, it was a blast.

Generation two of the X-mini Max will retail for US$59, with the Singapore pricing awaiting confirmation. From the white prototype that we saw back in April, there will now be two additional color choices: Black and red. The volume dial now sits on the cable.

Browserless Windows 7 lingers around

Ina Fried  |  Aug 26, 2009

Microsoft says it doesn't plan to ever ship a browserless "E" version of Windows 7, though that's still the version being offered by many of its European online stores.

With its plans now centered on creating a ballot screen where users can choose which browsers to install, Microsoft has no plans to ever ship the browserless "E" versions of Windows 7.

Curiously, though, the "E" versions are still listed for sale on several versions of Microsoft's European online store. Nor did the software maker have a clear explanation of why those versions are still listed, weeks after the company said that it would ship the same version globally.

Although the UK site seems to have it right, many of the non-English sites, including Spanish, Dutch, and German versions, list only the "E" or "N" versions of the operating system. As it did with Vista, Microsoft does plan to continue selling an "N" version in Europe, which has the media player removed.

User gets excessive packaging from HP

John Chan  |  Aug 24, 2009

Hmm? I'm pretty sure I didn't order a new server from HP. (Credit: chrixx, NotebookReview)

We don't know how real this is, but an Australia-based user, chrixx, on NotebookReview claims that HP delivered a power cord, complete with a wooden pallet. For those not familiar with it, a pallet is a structure used to hold heavy goods so they can be transported by a forklift easily. With pictures to back up his story, chrixx also said the pallet weighed 10kg, compared to the 300g power cord that was sent to him. Click to see a picture of the item he ordered.
