Kingston unveils industry's first 128GB USB flash drive

USB flash drives are getting so commonplace we might as well start using them as currency. I'm noticing more and more public relations companies handing out USB drives loaded with press releases and relevant product data sheets as opposed to the stack of paper it would've taken to print. I'm also impressed by how much prices for these little guys have come down in the past four years. Case in point: In 2005, the price for this 4GB SanDisk Cruzer Mini was a whopping US$380. Meanwhile, Kingston has set out to prove just how much you'll save with the release of the industry's first 128GB USB key, dubbed the Kingston Data Traveler 200.

LOOP concept makes your PC (almost) immortal

Darius Chang  |  Jun 15, 2009

For those not IT-savvy wnough to build and upgrade their own PCs, what happens is that once the machine becomes impossibly obsolete, the owner will buy a new desktop and ditch the old one. Meanwhile before buying a new computer, the user is essentially stuck with the same old components unless he can get someone to upgrade the hardware for him.

Microsoft to sell Windows 7 without Internet Explorer in Europe

Ina Fried   |  Jun 15, 2009

Microsoft plans to remove Internet Explorer from the versions of Windows 7 that it ships in Europe, CNET UK's sister site CNET News has learned.

Reacting to antitrust concerns expressed by European regulators, Microsoft plans to offer a version in Europe that has the browser removed. Computer makers would then have the option to add the browser back in, ship another browser or ship multiple browsers, according to a confidential memo that was sent to PC makers and seen by CNET News.

Microsoft has made energy efficiency a key design element of Windows 7, focusing on better power management for end users and centralized tools for IT pros, company executives said Friday.

Company engineers sought to make power management features more accessible than previous versions of Windows while at the same time, giving people the ability to customize settings.

A couple months back, I talked about Dell's new Eco-friendly monitors, the G2210 and G2410, which feature onscreen displays (OSDs) that allow you to see, in real time, how much energy your monitor is using depending on its current brightness level. In the original blog, I commented that I hoped more developers would follow Dell's lead, and it looks like NEC will be the first to try--perhaps even topping Dell.

Now, NEC announced the MultiSync E222W, a 22-inch LCD monitor with a host of ergonomic and Eco-conscious options.

The monitor includes 110mm height adjustment, pivoting, swivel, and tilt. It also includes an Eco Mode that purportedly reduces power consumption and heat generation.
