A keyboard that makes your father's Netbook usable

John Chan  |  Jun 17, 2009

So you bought your father an 8.9-inch Netbook last year and thought he would be over the moon. We reckon he really was happy--for all of 2 hours--till his shoulders and hands started aching from using the tiny keyboard. This Father's Day, make it up to him with the Goldtouch Go, an ergonomic USB QWERTY keyboard that's as sizeable as those found on 14-inch notebooks.

Aside from its larger keys, the Goldtouch Go also works in a split format, letting you type with your hands at an angle for greater comfort. The gift of a better typing experience for your old man will cost you US$139. Oddly, the company ships internationally at a flat rate of US$150, even more than what the keyboard costs. That sounds so ridiculous that we'd recommend contacting Goldtouch for clarification of its shipping rates if you are really interested.

Though Apple isn't saying whether it's working on a touchscreen tablet, the company may have shown its hand at its Worldwide Developers Conference last week.

Of course, the Apple tablet has become the Apple press corps' version of a Bigfoot hunt. Some believe the evidence is overwhelming. Others are, well, underwhelmed. And Apple doesn't discuss products before it's ready to.

Dell unveils sleek Inspiron laptops

Crave got a "world first" teaser at a Dell keynote in Paris, when Dell execs Michael Tatelman (pictured right) and Phil Bryant surreptitiously showed off two new laptops coming to the company's Inspiron range--both described as belonging to the thin-and-light category (as opposed to fat and clunky, one trusts).

Samsung expands its initial laptop rollout in Asia

CNET Asia at CommunicAsia 2009
Since vendors usually only showcase their handsets at the annual CommunicAsia tradeshow held in Singapore, when we spotted Samsung displaying several Netbooks and notebooks at its booth, it got us curious. Though we already know that the Korean chaebol is planning to launch the NC310 in Singapore and Malaysia come July, we were surprised when the PR for Samsung said the company is expanding the initial lineup to include notebooks as well.

According to the spokesperson, laptops from the R and X series will also be available in Singapore and Malaysia next month. Though the exact models could not be disclosed, at least one confirmed unit was spotted at the show. The Samsung X460 is a 14.1-inch portable with a Core 2 Duo processor and Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS. While its ports and network connectivity are standard fare, what's impressive about this machine is that it touts a six-cell battery and weighs a mere 1.9kg, making the X460 one of the lightest in its class. The claimed uptime is also a noteworthy 5 hours.

No other model names or pricing information were shared, but it's likely we will hear from Samsung closer to the notebooks' launch date in July. Do check back with us for more updates.

Kingston unveils industry's first 128GB USB flash drive

USB flash drives are getting so commonplace we might as well start using them as currency. I'm noticing more and more public relations companies handing out USB drives loaded with press releases and relevant product data sheets as opposed to the stack of paper it would've taken to print. I'm also impressed by how much prices for these little guys have come down in the past four years. Case in point: In 2005, the price for this 4GB SanDisk Cruzer Mini was a whopping US$380. Meanwhile, Kingston has set out to prove just how much you'll save with the release of the industry's first 128GB USB key, dubbed the Kingston Data Traveler 200.
