Sometimes, information can be gleaned from the most unexpected sources. In the yet-to-be-released iTunes 8.2, Blu-ray was mentioned on the "About iTunes" splash screen.
For those not well-versed in the world of Apple computers, Mac machines currently do not support Blu-ray discs. Though you can install a third-party optical drive in the Mac Pro, you'll still need to boot into Windows to read Blu-ray media. However, if iTunes is going to allow ripping from these discs, we might finally see Macs and MacBooks with fully integrated Blu-ray support and drives. Read more »

Seagate's new Replica drives are designed to do one thing and do it simply: Back up your entire Windows PC. They literally make a replica of your system, operating system and all.

JJ Abrams' retooling of the classic-era Star Trek is beaming into movie theaters very soon--sorry, we're contractually obliged to make that pun--and Toshiba is celebrating with all manner of branded bits and bobs.

The first Netbook running Google's Android operating system is expected to be available in the next three months and cost about US$250, according to a Computerworld report.
The Alpha 680, as the laptop is known as, is going through final testing at Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies, Skytone co-founder Nixon White told CNET.
The Netbook uses a 533MHz ARM 11 CPU and sports a 7-inch LCD screen, keyboard, touchpad, and built-in Wi-Fi, according to the report. However, the Alpha 680's two-cell battery will last only 2 to 4 hours while surfing the Internet, much lower than the expected 12 hours.
Android is a Linux-based operating system originally designed for cell phones, but now experts are predicting that the open-source operating system could be used on other devices, such as the emerging low-cost laptops known as Netbooks. In fact, market research firm Ovum recently predicted that Android-powered Netbooks will emerge in 2009, as manufacturers attempt to drive the price of Netbooks to around US$200 or less. Read more »
