Along with the other laptops and desktops HP announced at the Connecting the World event in Berlin comes the Voodoo Omen. An update of Voodoo's flagship high-end gaming desktop, the new Omen introduces some unique design elements along with the standard performance components. With prices starting at US$7,000 and likely approaching over US$15,000, the Omen brings HP and Voodoo into the extremely expensive luxury PC market.
At this price range, the specs are almost beside the point. The configuration is not available yet, but a downloadable PDF on the newly designed Voodoo site reveals that the Omen will offer an NForce 790i SLI motherboard, an overclockable, liquid-cooled Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core processor, solid-state hard drives, and support for both Nvidia's SLI and AMD's CrossFire multigraphics card technologies. All of that is to be expected, and neither the specs nor the sky-high price are different than what you can find from Alienware, Falcon Northwest, and other high-end PC vendors. But while Voodoo is not the only desktop vendor to let you configure a system in the US$10,000-plus price range, it may be the only one with a model aimed specifically at that upper tier.

We've previously taken notice of Voodoo founder (and current chief technology officer of HP's Global Gaming Business) Rahul Sood's playful birthday video, where he cut a cake with a MacBook Air and said: "Well, I wouldn't be needing this notebook for long anyways." Now we know exactly what he was talking about, with the new announcement of the Voodoo Envy 133.
We actually got to take a peek at one of these in person a few weeks ago, and we were impressed with the slim, attractive design. At around 3.4 pounds, it falls somewhere between the traditional MacBook and the lighter MacBook Air (it's nearly as thin, at 0.7 inch)--it might be best compared with Lenovo's 13-inch X300.
One particularly smart innovation we hope other laptop makers will adopt is what the company calls Voodoo Aura PowerConnect. That simply means the Ethernet jack is located on the power brick, so you don't have to fit the jack into the system itself.

Businesses weren't left out of HP's massive product launch on Tuesday. A full-line refresh of HP Compaq business notebooks now gives corporate buyers not only a choice of Intel or AMD processors, but also a choice of case finish and security features.
The HP Compaq "b" series includes a silver finish and magnesium alloy support structure, as well as a new coating on the case that HP claims is more scratch-resistant than previous laptops. In this series, the Intel-based 6530b and AMD-based 6535b feature 14.1-inch screens and a 5.3-pound starting weight; the Intel-based 6730b and AMD-based 6735b feature 15.4-inch screens and a 5.9-pound starting weight.

The consumer side of HP's massive product rollout on Tuesday included a refresh (and welcome name simplification) of the Pavilion line of laptops, as well as three new Compaq Presario models.
First up: Pavilions. The three models in the company's flagship laptop line have received some small enhancements, including a new metallic HP Imprint finish, a "frameless" display option that the company is calling BrightView Infinity, and a hard drive accelerometer to protect data if the laptop is bumped or dropped. All the new Pavilion models also include an HDMI port and the option for a Blu-ray drive.
Otherwise, the Pavilions are largely unchanged. Model names with a "t" suffix still indicate an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and integrated Intel or discrete Nvidia graphics; a "z" suffix still translates to an AMD Turion X2 or Athlon X2 CPU with ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphics. All models incorporate up to 4GB of RAM; 5,400rpm hard drives up to 320GB (with one exception, below); and a Webcam, microphone, and optional fingerprint reader.

BERLIN, GERMANY--Our standard consumer notebooks store data either on a hard drive or on flash memory, but the 2533t Mobile Thin Client notebook introduced at the HP Connecting Your World event is not your typical laptop. The 2533t communicates directly with a secure, centralized office server, so you won't panic or go into a seizure when your notebook falls into the wrong hands. It has a footprint of 282 x 214 x 25.2mm (at the front), weighs 1.36kg, has a 1,280 x 800, 12.1-inch widescreen display and Wi-Fi connectivity.
