Unless you are putting out for full-fledged entertainment desktop replacements, chances are your notebook speakers can barely squeak out enough quality sound for your movies, much less good music for the discerning ear.
The latest S$189 (US$135.77) laptop speaker from Logitech, the AudioHub, is a unique solution combining a 2.1-channel audio system with a three-port USB hub for your portable. The speaker width is adjustable to fit almost any laptop size, while an integrated subwoofer gives a bigger bang to the bass. A cable management system keeps the USB wires tidy when hooked up to these speakers.
It will be available in Singapore from next month, with availability in other Asia-Pacific countries pending updates.
If there was ever a word to strike fear into the hearts of gaming PCs today, surely it should be Crysis. This first-person shooter is not only the most visually spectacular title to date, it also brings most, if not all, gaming systems to their knees.
So when we heard H]Enthusiast claiming to have seen a low-power chipset running the resource-intensive game, we sat up and took notice. In a nutshell, the latest UMPC platform from VIA (codenamed Isaiah), competitor to Intel's Silverthorn UMPC processor, showcased its 1.8GHz single-core chip running Crysis. Granted, it's probably mated to a high-end graphics chipset. Nonetheless, for a chip with a small thermal envelope, such performance is impressive. Hopefully, it won't be too long before we can start testing UMPCs based on the Isaiah platform.
Less than three days since the MacBook Air's debut, companies are working furiously to come out with accessories that will most certainly deluge the market in coming months. So even though Belkin's sleeves and cases aren't exactly revolutionary, they score points for being so quick out of the floodgate.
In fact, Belkin's already got a whole new line on its site, with options for color, leather, neoprene, straps, and fasteners, for US$40 or US$50. It's unclear when they'll be ready for delivery, however. So if you want some faster--and cheaper--you can always opt for "AirMail".
The two companies planned to announce on Friday that they were teaming up to offer three (Product) Red PCs, supporting the charitable effort that benefits women and children affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa. However, their news dribbled out early, after the New York Times' John Markoff mentioned the plans on the paper's Davos blog.
Dell plans to slather its all-in-one desktop PC, the XPS One, in red. The two are also teaming up on Red versions of the XPS M1330 and XPS 1530 notebooks, which, should be noted, were already available in red paint. The difference will be a special version of the operating system.
The PC is Red on the inside, too, with a special edition of Windows Vista Ultimate edition that includes specially themed desktop wallpaper and sidebar gadgets.
According to AppleInsider, the next version of MacBook Pro will be equipped with the same multitouch trackpad as the one on the MacBook Air.
Though this move is about as unexpected as the rising tide, it will be more interesting to see if their claims that the units will appear in a few weeks turns out to be truth. The new portables will also be based on Intel's latest Penryn processors, which not only gives a performance boost but also increases battery life as well.
