The YP-K5 was celebrated for its design aesthetics, and though it worked a pair of speakers nicely into the mix, some were put off by its heft. So Samsung listened and came up with an anorexic alter ego. The result: This waifish darling will be making its debut at CES 2007. Samsung Asia was quite unable to furnish specifications at press time, but from what we know, it will support the MP3, WMA and OGG Vorbis audio formats and display JPEG images.

New user interfaces must be hard to think up. The iPod Click Wheel spawned a host of mechanized knock-offs, some viable alternatives like Creative's touch scroll and iriver's D-Click and interesting solutions like the Cowon iAudio F2's phone-like control pad. Newman must have thought it's a great idea since it grafted a version onto its D20c.

We would think a video-capable watch is in keeping with the Bond tradition… if it was a little dressier. Sanko, a Japan-based manufacturer, has a new MP4 watch that's now available in China as well. With a 1.5-inch screen and a 128 x 128-pixel display, the watch supports both MP3 and WMA audio formats. Bond would be happy to know it has a rated battery life of 7 hours for audio and 4 hours for video. No word yet on video format support. Available in both a 1GB capacity for 14,800 yen (S$197) and 18,800 yen (S$250) for 2GB.

Canelphones work by isolating outside noise from your ears. It's cheaper than noise-canceling headphones, too, since it does not involve additional electronic circuitry. Etymotic, makers of some pretty pricy canelphones is now offering a wireless version. Based on the same design as previous renditions, the ety8 comes with both stereo audio streaming (A2DP) and remote control (AVRCP) profiles. It's perfect for those who crave pristine audio fidelity. Pity about the pendant earring transmitter, though. No pricing details at the moment.

The aigo UH-P706 just made it onto our radar. In fact, it made a huge blip on our scope because of its 160GB hard drive. We do not have detailed specs at the moment, but for what it's worth, it's a photographer's delight. It supports most of the storage card formats like SD, MMC, Memory Stick and CF.
