With just a day to go to CES, Sony appears to be prepping a new wearable Walkman to be unveiled at the world's largest consumer technology trade fair this week. According to SonyInsider, this Walkman is aimed squarely at the budget-conscious crowd with an estimated price of US$50 to US$75.
For that amount, you're looking at 2GB of flash storage, a pair of magnetic earphones that clip together when not in use and support for MP3, AAC, WMA (with DRM) and PCM audio codecs. 3 minutes on the mains is equivalent to 90 minutes of uptime, while 30 minutes on AC will give you approximately 12 hours of continuous playback.
We'll know tomorrow if Sony decides to make all these official.
On Monday, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs issued a statement concerning his health and explaining his absence from the Macworld show.
In a letter, Jobs wrote:
"Dear Apple Community,
"For the first time in a decade, I'm getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.
"Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil (Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing) deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.
"I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow. Read more »
I'm not sure what to make of this, but the few of you who have been following the music technology scene would have probably chanced upon Creative's Zii teaser site. What could four leaf clovers that jiggle once every few seconds and the word Zii with a cursive slant at the last stroke of the letter Z and a design play on the two "i"s mean? The only thing Creative has to say about it is that, its stemcell (note: It's one word) computing concept/product will change everything we know. Could it be a social-networking site? Or a new processing chip as blogsite Epizenter reported? I'm definitely curious about this. Fortunately, we don't have to wait too long for the answers as CES is just a couple of days away. Give us your best shot on what Zii could be.
Could we soon be seeing a beefed-up iPod with a bigger screen?

Apple is expected to release an iPod touch device with a 7- to 9-inch screen
in the fall of 2009, according to a report
on TechCrunch that cites three independent sources.
One of TechCrunch's sources claims to have actually handled one of the
prototypes, and Apple is talking with manufacturers in Asia about mass
production of the device, according to the report.
Certainly at that size, the device would be more of a tablet than an iPod,
and tablet rumors have been floating around Apple for years.
There was a fury of speculation in August after a number of Mac sites
pointed to a US patent application granted for what appeared to be the
mythical Mac tablet. AppleInsider
published a description of the device discussed in the application, which
appears to bring a lot of the iPhone's multitouch functionality to a slate-like
tablet computer.
