CES
iHome is highlighting a few products at this year's CES and one of them, the iH15 LED Color Changing Stereo System, is actually available now for US$59.99.

The concept behind this simple and compact iPod audio system is that you can customize its color thanks to an LED behind the iH15's translucent cabinet. It's unclear whether you get the full range of colors pictured in the photo or just four (as the specs imply below). We'll let you know was soon as we get that little detail confirmed.

Here's all the company has to say about the product:
  • Translucent cabinet changes color at the touch of a button
  • Plays and charges most docking iPod models
  • Four color-change settings
  • Reson8 stereo speakers with passive subwoofer
  • Line-in to listen to other aux audio sources
  • 5.47 inches tall by 5.47 inches wide by 5.47 inches deep
  • Powered by an AC adapter (no battery option)

  • Rockband for the pros

    CES
The truth is, chalking up score on Guitar Hero or Rockband on the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii can never match the experience of playing real music instruments. In fact, some established musicians fumble with the controls on the faux-guitars and drums and probably won't make it past the beginner's levels in the games.

In collaboration with Disney, US Music Corp has developed the Disney Star. This game is very similar to Rockband and comes with a guitar, music keyboard and microphone. But what differentiates this system from other games would be the controls. Instead of buttons, there are colored strings on the guitar and users will have to strum (with a real guitar pick) in accordance to what is displayed on the computer screen.

US Music Corp told us that Disney Star is more of an educational tool than for play. We tried the guitar briefly and found it to give a more comprehensive music experience than the consoles' equivalent. It may not make you Jimi Hendrix, but the company said that by the time you reach the expert levels, you will probably be reading the music notes (which is displayed as well) rather than watching out for the colored symbols.

The availability of Disney Star has yet to be confirmed, but each instrument will cost less than US$200.

With this in mind, we can't imagine Guns N' Roses playing soundtracks from High School Musical.

iHome debuts 100-watt iPod audio system: The iP1

    CES
You don't necessarily associate the iHome brand with "premium" audio and cutting-edge design, but the folks there are giving it their best shot with the upcoming 100-watt iP1, which features a whole new look for the company known for its budget iPod audio systems.

The iP1 has a set of "custom-designed" 4-inch woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters, which are powered by Bongiovi Acoustic's proprietary Digital Power Station processor. In terms of connectivity, there's a standard audio input to connect other audio devices along with an A/V output and a remote control. Works with iPhones, too.

The iP1 is due to arrive in the spring-to-summer time frame and will most likely be carrying a price tag in the neighborhood of US$250-US$300, though iHome hasn't set a price yet.

iriver debuts WAVE Internet phone, PMP and Web-enabled portable

    CES
iriver has traditionally been associated with high-quality and fabulous-looking MP3 players, but the Korean outfit has gone all official with its WAVE Internet phone at CES. No word on pricing and availability yet, but when the device ships it'll come dressed with a 3-inch touchscreen display, Wi-Fi and 4GB flash memory.

The company's also announcing a new portable media player equipped with Wi-Fi and an inbuilt accelerometer for all the spinning and shaking goodness. For the specs-obsessed, the PMP supports viewing of RAW image files on its 4.3-inch touchscreen panel and packs a built-in microphone/speaker, TV-out and 16GB of memory (microSD expansion card slot can boost capacity to 32GB).

That's not all. The triumvirate of gadgetry ends with the D50N which is a Web-browsing and instant messaging device with a 4.8-inch (800 x 480-pixel) display. Never mind that it looks like a chunky box, iriver already has us swooning over its design wizardry.

    Sony confirms touchscreen X-Series Walkman

    Jasmine France  |  Jan 08, 2009

    CES
Looks like my fellow MP3 editor Donald Bell is gonna have to eat some words, although he was right about one thing: We won't be seeing a touchscreen MP3 player from Sony all that soon in the US. You're going to have to wait until May to get your hands on the X-Series Walkman, which was officially announced at CES 2009. I can wait longer than that, personally, because while this player has some sweet features, there's something about the look of it that comes off as just a touch generic to me. Still, Sony tends to do a good job of giving it's portables a nice, solid feel, so I suppose I'll wait to cast my final judgment until tomorrow when I get to lay hands on the player for a photo shoot. (Stay tuned for a slide show a bit later this week.)
